Abstract

If there is a film genre that accompanies us throughout our lives, it is Cartoons. Gone are the times when this genre was aimed only at the little ones, and today people of all ages enjoy authentic wonders made by hand or by computer, which captivate us not only for their dazzling technology, but also for their elaborate scripts, his humor, his tenderness and his overflowing imagination. Cinema has proven to be an invaluable teaching resource for the study of Sciences. There are innumerable positive points that recommend its application in the classroom, among which we can highlight its status as an active methodology capable of providing significant learning, regardless of the student's learning style, to which we should add its status as a universal icon, its easy accessibility and the great popularity it enjoys among students. These characteristics of cinema have a positive impact on enhancing motivation and attention, perhaps the most valuable work tools that we as teaching professionals have. The present study, which is part of a line of research followed by the authors, in which Film in the Classroom sessions are proposed as an occasional teaching resource for the teaching of Science, focuses on this occasion on Cartoons. We will see how the use of such an endearing genre, following certain methodology and an appropriate theoretical framework of application, constitutes a first-rate occasional teaching resource that we must make available to our students. Are also presented, as a practical section, specific scenes from series and movies, such as “Up”, “Futurama” or “Space Jam”, as well as their application to the Mathematics, Science and Statistics curricula, both in Secondary Education and in Baccalaureate and in University Degrees. The surprise, motivation and attention of the student are assured, and all this without forgetting the necessary academic rigor.
