Short Presentation

Antonio has received his PhD. (July 23, 2018) in Physics of matter and light from the “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid” with international and cum laude mentions. The title of his PhD thesis was “Metal-oxide nanofilms for photonics and optoelectronics: Functionalization of Eu oxides and WSe2 monolayers”. The work is focused on the growth, optical and magnetic characterization of EuOx low-dimensional films as well as the encapsulation of two-dimensional (2D) active materials (WSe2) in order to preserve of modifying their photoluminescence.
Antonio has an international stays of two years at the Leibniz University in Hannover (Germany) (3 months working as Research Assistant) and 4 months at the Institute for Solid State Physics and Semiconductors in Linz (Austria). He has worked at the Seville Institute of Materials Science of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Nuclear Safety Council and the Institute of Optics (CSIC).
His main experience includes: A great knowledge in materials growth using vacuum techniques (Pulsed Laser Deposition, Magnetron Sputtering and Atomic Layer Deposition), especially in oxides, metals and semi-metals, both in thin films and nanoparticles, controlling their stoichiometry. Material characterization techniques such as ellipsometry (modelling and analysis), photoluminescence, SEM, TEM, Raman, XRD and FTIR. Besides, he has worked in clean room fabricating hybrid piezoelectric devices based in oxide nano-membranes with embedded optically active 2D materials and he has designed and implemented a complete micro-photoluminescence experiment.
He is co-author of 19 publications in SCI international journals (17 in Q1) and 3 proceedings and more than 39 conference contributions, including 6 invited talks at major international conferences (in the last 5 years). He has organized 1 international conference event. He has also developed a very intense international activity and currently collaborates with researchers in leading institutions in Austria, Roma and Mexico. During the last 5 years he has successfully supervised 2 final internships and 4 Bachelor thesis (one in process). He has been awarded with 4 fellowships, 3 from the Spanish public administration and 1 from the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (all through public tenders).  He participates as a reviewer of important journals and currently serves as guest editor of "Electronics".
Regarding his teaching experience, Antonio has taught a total of approximately 1000 hours (April 21, 2022) of the official degree in Computer Science and telecommunication engineering (most of them in applied physics), obtaining excellent teacher evaluations according to the ANECA model. Besides, he has also attended several courses to adapt for the new post-covid19 teaching paradigm (Google Classroom, 365 for teaching, Blackboard, etc.).

Since 2019 he is working as Professor (tenure track) and Researcher in CEU San Pablo University at the Department of Information Technology. His current research interests are within applied and computational Physics, in the fields of nanophotonics, optoelectronics and 2D materials.
