Short Presentation

During my 12 years of research experience, I have gained extensive interdisciplinary expertise in three major areas: Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Pathophysiology and Endocrinology, and Neuroscience and Neural disorders. With this background, I have successfully publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals (29 research articles, 18 as 1st or 2nd author; H-index: 18) disseminated my research in national and international conferences (more than 39, with oral talks as invited speaker), achieving  two travel fellowship as well as one research award and one patent. Of particular international relevance, in 2016, I received a prestigious Seal of Excellence delivered by the European Commission, gathers distinguished researchers in the field, and recognizing the high-quality project proposal in a highly competitive evaluation process. As a social transfer, I actively participated in several educational initiatives and public engagement , given talks in high schools and interviews for national and international media (specialized press, general press, radio, TV) with the final aim to show how research has a positive impact on people’s lives. As PI or Co-PI on several highly competitive national and international-funded grants ( Funding 699.989€), I have substantial experience in project design and implementation. I am committed to developing a research environment that works with integrity and fosters openness, collaboration and community involvement. Indeed, I am the project leader and coordinator of a prestigious research grant from the "La Caixa" Banking Foundation Actions (“METABOLEP”-“A potential metabolic-targeted therapeutic for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS): Leptin”) leading a consolidated national and international network, working closely with remarkable researchers in AD and ALS/FTD field such as Prof. James Vickers and Prof. Anna King (Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania, Australia), Prof. Mariano Ruiz Gallo (CEU-San Pablo University), and Dr Jemeen Sreedharan (King’s College London, UK). As a neuroscience researcher, I am committed to promoting excellence in research through knowledge sharing, building collaborations and peer review. I am a regular reviewer of regional and international grants. Indeed, as a part of my professional practice I participated in scientific committees (e.g. HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDERCHALLENGES-01-03), organized R&D activities (e.g. member of the judging subcommittee of the ANS conference) and have been invited to review papers from my peers in high-ranking international journals in the neuroscience field (e.g. Annals of Neurology, IF:10.244, Acta Neuropathologica, IF: 18.174). I have also developed my skills as a senior researcher by my role in the assessment and supervision of 8 ungraduated students and 2 MSc. I have already co-directed a doctoral international thesis, which was defended in 2019 and 2021, obtaining the highest mark “Sobresaliente Cum Laude” from the University of Tasmania (Australia), and then gaining excellent postdoctoral positions in international research laboratories (e.g. The University of Manchester).
