Belgrado imaginada: cine y literatura en la Serbia post Milosevic

Resumen

During the 20th Century, Belgrade´s imaginary hasbeen subjected to several changes. First, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Serbia and after became the headof a new monarchy: The Kingdom of the Serbs, the Croats and the Slovenes. Finally, it became the head of a Socialist Republic halfway between the Soviet bloc and theWest turning into the center of a nationalist regime engaged in successive wars (1991-1999). After SlobodanMilosevic´s fall (2000), Belgrade has experienced overthe last ten years a process of imaginary rebuilding infilm and literature. Aesthetics of Milosevic’s nationalist period has been abandoned and it has been recovered the image of a European city related to the majorcapitals of Central Europe.This change can be traced both in the fiction film (filmnoir, thriller and comedy) ans some novels and authors in Serbia (Bogdanovic, Draskovic), the formerYugoslav space (Matvejevic, Ugresic) and Western Europe (Hadke, Magris). The nationalist and militaristiccontent in film and in fiction has been abandoned andBelgrade has recovered its imaginary of high Europeanculture, represented by the Central European cosmopolitanism and modernity as they appear on film andliterary narratives major current issues but includinga postmodern feeling (the nostalgia, lost security, thecrisis values, the dehumanization of the cities, crime,loneliness).
